Emma Lozano
Pastor and community activist Emma Lozano was born in Texas in 1955 where her father was a migrant farmworker. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Chicago. As a teen, Lozano was inspired and mentored by her older brother Rudy Lozano, an activist for the Latino community. After her brother’s assassination in 1983, Lozano vowed to continue her brother’s work. She founded Centro Sin Fronteras, co-founded Familia Latina Unida and serves as a pastor at Lincoln United Methodist Church, a sanctuary church for the undocumented.
Why this stop? Just about a quarter mile south of the Damen Pink Line stop is Lincoln United Methodist Church where Lozano serves.
